To provide the individuals with the skills, information and the confidence to
apply to become voluntary befrienders with the Calderdale Help In Bereavement
Service.
To provide a safe and supportive group in which to explore the subject of grief
and bereavement.
To look at the practical issues of bereavement visiting, and the role of a CHIBS
befriender.
To introduce befrienders to the basic listening and attending skills and to offer
an opportunity to practise these skills.
To introduce befrienders to some basic theories covering loss and bereavement.
To look at the pattern of normal grief and the determinants of the grieving
process.
To have awareness of the differences and potential difficulties when faced with a
sudden or traumatic loss.
To identify when the client may require other assistance or support.
